| We'd have to get a satellite dish to watch deutsches Fernsehen if we do get a holiday home in Thanet. Otherwise I'd be down the pub EVERY evening. And you know what, it turns out you're right. There "certainly were" Döner-style "sandwiches" sold in the middle east, well before the Turkish immigration here in the 60's. Your Guardian explains all, including its prevelance in the UK predating it here. (Found that in Wikipedia.) But maybe the pide-in-the-hand wasn't known where these two Turkish immigrants came from. Maybe to them and other Turks, it was a new thing. Or it was a "likely" story. |
