Winterwetter & Stachelbier auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt

Went to the third market in town, the new one this year. A couple of stands with bottled Tucher beer (?!) and then a booth called "Bierschmiede", beer smith. There, you can get a 25 cl glass of either Weizenbock from Nordlingen or some Bock from ...wait for it... Gänstaller. For 3€. (So, yes, 6€ a Seidla.)

The "smith" part is the guy's got hot pokers to stick in the glass to carmelise the sugars. I didn't go for that, rather, just a little glass of Gänstaller, which was startlingly murky (yes, it's supposed to be yeasty, said the Schmiede) and tasted like an IPA that had not settled properly. It was drinkable, slowly, but not really something I'd go for again, and certainly not at that price. (Lovely Pils and Festbier for half that price at the other two markets.)

I'll probably go back and try it as a Stachelbier though, as it's supposed to be enjoyed. The three people at the table I stood at had never heard of such a thing.
