So far I have three examples. One said "tip not included", one said "Service not included" and I think the third said "tip" but it could have said "service" Nick: On the first one, I made clear to the waiter I didn't want change (it was a €1.70 tip on a €22.30 tab, about what I'd usally leave. I was surprised he grabbed the check along with the cash -- they were side by side. This was Brauhaus Sudstern -- a bit off the touristy track but is is a brewpub so that may attract tourists. The "Service not included" bugs me as it was a place with decent food and decent beer. I left about the same, but I actually probably would have left another euro. Everybody I spoke to had an Irish accent (and the place an English name) but I wouldn't expect a super high tourist business but who knows. It happened again today at Deponie Nr 3 -- a place in an S-bahn arch off of Friedrichstrasse -- definately tourist country (supposedly once an East German tank barn) Left my standard stip -- probably more generous than a typical German but not anywhere US scale -- got a nice thanks in return. I may scan and email the "Service not included" one if I can find an email address as I think that is wrong. The "tip not included" is technically true but a borderline scam but doesn't bother me as much. |
