New Microbrewery Erlkönig in Bamberg-Gaustadt

Bavaria is interesting in that there was a large US military population for many years.  Strangely, now that they have gone from places like Bamberg, the trend towards American style cars/cafes/nightclubs (see Nick's later posting) seems to be increasing.  I think that this is part of the world-wide influence of American culture, particularly on young people.

There seems to have been a generational split in the last 50/60 years: up to the 1960s, it was normal for generations of families to socialise together, particularly in the male population, with grandfather/father/son pub going being the norm.  That has really changed now, with younger people opting for these supposed trendy, cool places and the older folks heading for more 'traditional' pubs (well, that comment could be refined a bit).  I think that you were correct when you said that the craft beer phenomenon was part of that trend.
