Dogs in pubs

You mean servers shouldn't be handling the dogs, right? Or...I should not pet my dog without then washing my hands before picking up my fork or Seidla? The former is a perfectly reasonable demand, if the latter...we should also worry about people picking their noses in pubs.

Pick up something dropped on the floor? In to the loo with you!

All that hyperbole aside, it is disconcerting to hear of the dearth of officially-publicised dog-friendly pubs in Llandudno. I would bet quite a few more are actually dog-friendly, at least in mitigating circumstances like being out-of-town guests. I've been able to get Tabor allowed into a few Kentish pubs that are normally dog-free, just by politely explaining our situation and asking. Of course, that he's so sweet doesn't hurt.

And the idea of someone feeding their dog leftovers is bad enough, let alone from a plate! Were I the publican, I'd have threatened them with a ban.

Here's Carlton Banks, an adorable rescue dog in the venerable Great Western Pub in Wolverhampton, a couple of Sunday afternoons ago. There was lovely Holdens Bitter & Mild on(*) that day too, I admit I eschewed the strong, sweet Batham's.

* Is this an Americanism?
