Dogs in pubs

I'd like to show you around the one-room dog-friendly pubs of Thanet sometime!

On that EU regulation. I found that before, or a variant thereof, when I googled around a year or so ago. I wanted to find out if the knee-jerk response I'd heard in pubs in England a few times was true: that *EU* regulations prohibit dogs in restaurants or dining areas, it didn't use to be that way (greetings from my pub-mate Nigel F). What I saw, however, was just the last bit, stating that contamination of food prep areas by animals is to be prevented, not necessarily that access to the areas must be prevented. Now I see that is to be allowed on an exceptional basis.

But yes, what about a domestic kitchen operating as a B&B? Is that a "commercial" operation? In any case, we've stayed in one B&B with a dog that I can recall, another with a cat (won't be repeating THAT mistake!), and we never fell ill.

In our case, we've trained Tabor to stay out of the kitchen (it's open to the rest of the room, no door, a la modern "American" style, as they call it here) when we're in there, for safety's sake. More or less. When he does wander in, he then must go back to his little bed just out of the kitchen. But we would take measures to keep him out of the kitchen whilst making breakfast for our guests, if not 24 hours a day. Would have to depend on the layout of the house, of course.

(Not looking forward to frying up all that bacon & sausage though.)
