Don't know about the business model but, yes, Sam Smith's Old Brewery Bitter Bitter is a fine pint. Curiously, it was one of the strongest 'ordinary' bitters in the 1980 GBG at 1040.9 OG - probably about the same today. My copy of Frank Baillie's 1974 'The Beer Drinker's Companion' lists the Tadcaster Brewery as brewing a range of draught beers, including a mild but the 1980 GBG lists only the OB Bitter and I can't remember seeing anything but bitter in recent years. The small town of Tadcaster still has 2 breweries; Sam Smith;s and John Smith's (of Magnet ales fame). But there was once a third brewery. Anyone know what that was? |
