Thanks Fred, you've hit the nail on the head! So, 'stiftisch' is the adjective formed from 'Stift'. The 'stiftische Brauen' being those who paid 'ein stift' to the local lord. Apart from German being so complex, the book is not especially well written and quite difficult to follow - that's my excuse anyway. But it is interesting, that is, if you have an interest in the detail of the history of the Kommunbrauhaus. |
