The village Bischberg has around 4.500 inhabitants and only one brewery. There are many new houses on the hills over Bischberg. More than 200 students of the University Bamberg have there an appartment. If You visit only the main street You can think this village is smaller. The Sonne brewpub has a good balance of good food and beer. One son for the brewery and the other son for the kitchen. Christian Schuhmann is the brewmaster, Peter Schuhmann the chief (since 2005). After the generational change they have made some investments. In the years before they have had some beers contract brewed by Kaiserdom. Now their brew all beers themselves. Their beers have a good reputation and are sold in some pubs. They have 18 guest rooms, which are in many brewpubs the most profitble part of the business. Like many other villages around Bamberg (we call it "Speckgürtel": bacon belt), p.e Hallstadt (is a city), Memmelsdorf, Gundelsheim, Litzendorf etc. Bischberg benefits by the groth of the city Bamberg. They need a good bus line connection (city busses) and have low prices of houses and land. |
