One of the interesting things about Blue Moon is what a marketing success it has been here in the US. It seems like it has become a "go to" beer for a lot of people that generally don't care about beer all that much but occasionally will order one at a bar or restaurant. My brother is a classic example. He drinks beer rarely as he generally doesn't like it (I jokingly sometimes ask my mom if he is from a different father - but I digress) but if I go to a bar or restaurant with him he will sometimes order a Blue Moon if they have it on tap and many places do seem to have it on tap due to this kind of popularity. It's a girly beer. It's the go to for a lot of women that don't really like beer too much and well ... people like my brother. But it's been such a success that you see competing big brewing companies have or are trying to come to the market with a compettive product (aka "Shock Top" from AB - InBev). Personally I don't drink Witbiers a lot but if I have one at my local pub I'm going with the Allagash White which IMO is miles better than a Blue Moon. |
