Whichever spelling you like, my first bottle of this year's Josephi Starkbier (r8beer should correct their spelling) is probably the best beer from Pyraser I've had. Which ain't saying much, actually, as most of what I've had from them is pretty "meh" to absolutely horrid (whatever the sour, dark, ridiculously strong "IPA" was in Munich a couple of years ago). Strong, pale, and fairly dry, if not as "herb" as they say on the label, it's actually not bad for a strong pale Bock. And now I see that Café Abseits have the Huppi Josefi on, and Gerhard reports that it seems perhaps a bit stronger indeed than the autumnal Kathrein Bock, despite being offcially brewed lighter. And he's got an unfiltered version. He doesn't say how long it might last though...hopefully until next week? I really enjoyed the Keesmann a couple of years ago. I don't recall the last time I had any Huppendorfer. |
