Franconian Beer Message Board

I visited this brewery last May when in the Oberpfalz enjoying Zoigl country. Rothenstadt is just south of Weiden. I would imagine it is unlikely that many of you will have heard of this brewery nevermind visited (it is very private it seems) but I'm sure a few will have. For me, it was one of those weird experiences that one can still find in the deepest darkest recesses of the western world. The brewery is housed in a large, crumbling old building in the centre of the village with the Hosl logo the only indication of it's purpose (note this has no apparant connection with nearby Hosl in Mitterteich). All in all it looked like it had seen better days (founded in 1615) but was none the less impressive. The tap room is across the road and looked quite large from the outside. Nothing remarkable about it. A group of elderley regulars sat at one table and the even older proprieter prepared our drinks without much fanfare. They all looked like they had walked straight out of the 1930s and their complete lack of curiosity about 3 foreign strangers was a blessing really as their German was so thick it didn't really seem to ressemble the mother tongue in any way to me. The main room was large and set for lots of visitors but no one else was around in the early (Saturday) evening and only one light lit the dim corner where the regulars sat. We clearly weren't felt worthy of lighting and sat in half darkness near a window. It is very difficult to describe the atmosphere, not hostile or even unfriendly, just completely nonchalant, and we felt like we were intruding on proceedings so we finished our beers (fine helles, nothing special) and quietly left. I doubt they even noticed. 

Anyway, I want to revisit this coming May, but I have half a feeling it'll be boarded up and any enquiries with the locals would suggest it had been for the past 50 years, like something out of a film. Back to my original question, has anyone heard of or been to this brewery?
