Something I found when visiting the Pflaz Museum in Forchheim's Kaiserpfalz back in September. You may recall a fairly run of the mill film called 'Town Without Pity' from 1961; more likely, like me, you will remember the Gene Pitney song of the same name. Having not seen the film, what I didn't realise until visiting the museum was that the film was filmed largely in Forchheim (apparently with some scenes shot in Bamberg). The film concerns the rape of a 16 year-old German girl (played by Kristine Kaufmann) by 4 US soldiers, their subsequent trial (defence lawyer Kirk Douglas) and the subsequent consequences of all this, as the girl and her boyfriend are run out of town. The clips shown in the museum suggest a fairly evocative picture of 1950s Germany - as anyone seen it?The museum also features a 1930s film also largely shot in Forchheim but I can't remember the title. The Pfalzmuseum is worth a visit and is just at the bottom end of Sattlertorstrasse, home of Hebendanz and Neder. Makes a nice couple of hours break between beers! |
