If you have only one day, I would suggest optimising your time by taking the local buses. The local city website for transport (http://www.stadtwerke-bamberg.de/cms/OePNV/OePNV.html) is pretty easy to follow and gives clear info on tickets and the different local lines. A day ticket for 1 adult costs only €3.50 and is well worth buying. You can buy these tickets on a machine at the station or I'm pretty sure that the bus drivers sell them. Once you've got your ticket, cross the road opposite the station, turn to the right and there is the bus stop. Any bus marked 'ZOB' will do you (I think they all go to the ZOB from there). Get off at the first stop (doesn't sound much but walking the length of Luitpoldstr is a drag, inless you want some cheap Chinese food!), walk to the traffic lights, turn right and, in 100 metres or so, there is Fassla (agree with Nick - not my favourite beer but definitely worth a visit for a first timer). Finish in Fassla, cross the road (carefully) and you're in Spezial. Try both the Rauchbier and, if its on, the U. From there, I would walk to Schlenkerla; it will take you around 20 minutes, but you can see most of the sites by doing this. Unless you want to eat, buy buy beer from the hatch on left side past the room door and drink in the schwemme. Ignore Ambrosianum and walk back to Klosterbrau. Now I know that I don't rate this too highly but it's there and ditto comments for Fassla (Braun oder Schwarz bier worth a try). From Klosterbrau, you could walk up to Spezikeller but only if the weather is good - remember, you've already had the Spezial biers. Alternatively, walk to Schranne and pick up the 912 bus to Greifenklau - only two stops but it is a big hill! From Greifenklau, take the bus back to ZOB and take the 905 to wonderful Wunderburg! 3 stops and less than 10 minutes and you're at Keesmann and Mahrs - and I think that enough has been said on this forum about these 2! After you've had sufficient pils and U, you can take bus 905 back to ZOB and any one of a number of buses back to the Bahnhof. I reckon that's quite an easy day and will allow you to see every brewery (except Amb) in Bamberg. |
