That's a rather unfortunate and cynical assertion from Stephan. Too bad. His U could reallly use some fine-tuning. But if he is happy with it, more power to him. I am a complete freak for minerals. In your mind, what are some breweries with high mineral content, and what explains the seemingly huge variance in such a small region? To me, the cluster of breweries around Hallerndorf, namely the glorious beers from Roppelt, Lieberth, and Witzgall (and, to a degree, Rittmayer), epitomize water quality. Mineralic notes virtually leap from the glass in many of said breweries' beers, and nothing quite excites me as a clean and lean, but well-textured of course, mineral-laden beer! I recall Christian at Lieberth (what a stupendously swell fellow!) explaining to me that the water from Roppelt, Witzgall, Lieberth, and Rittmater Hallernorf all comes from the same source. Pretty sure I am remembering that correctly! |
