Is this the cheapest beer in Franconia? |

I'm always intrigued as to why wheat beers are more expensive that other beers. They are top fermented, which is generally a quicker process than bottom fermenting and, presumably, are not lagered for as long. Also, presumably, there is a little filtering or other processing. Is this a question of simply charging a price that the sellers think the buyers will pay? Concur with Gerhard in this general comments re the cost of beer as a percentage of total running costs, although 25% seems quite high. We used to calculate material costs (i.e. beers, etc.) at around 15% and I think, in general, the wholesale cost of beer in Germany is lower than in the UK (as also are taxes, property costs, etc.). |
