I love cycling in Franconia as it allows you to visit so many places you wouldn't manage without a bike. I always hire a bike from RADLDRAN in Bamberg and spend a few days cycling around the area. A popular route is following the canal to Strullendorf then going up to Geisfeld, Rossdorf and then Tiefenellern or etc or down to Eggolsheim, Buttenheim then across to the Kreuzberg. Cycling back from this one is interesting. Another good one is a train to Lichtenfels, start at Brauerei Wichert then visit Vierzehnheiligen (leaving bike at the bottom!), then down to Staffelberg, Stublang and Frauerndorf. Last year I cycled to Sesslach, having forgotten that I'd been there already. It's a beautiful small town with a Kommunbrau so was worth it but I think I passed 6 breweries on the way, almost all were shut as it was a Monday, but I knew that anyway and had been to them before. It would be a great ride when all open. Highly recommend cycling. |
