There is a useful chart on this subject on the Wikipedia page on homebrewing. There are no restrictions on the amount that can be brewed by homebrewers in either Britain or Ireland (phew, I was almost getting worried!). But it shows the 200 litre restriction per household for Germany, quoting 'Haus- und Hobbybrauer". Bundeministerium der Finanzen/Zoll/Germany. Retrieved 2010-11-20'. Nick, you must close to this figure? This started me thinking about the situation in Neuhaus/Oberpfalz. As I understand it, the zoiglstub'n in Eschawo and Neuhaus have some special arrangement, which allows them to pay less tax on their beer. I suppose that this accounts, in part, for the low selling price. However, I wonder what the situation is with the homebrewers in Neuhaus. I don't know how much they brew but, having seen the cask in the storage cellar of one homebrewer, it must be more than 200 litre per year. Yet another question to ask! |
