Biking in Franconia

Yes, it's generally illegal, except for young children, who are prohibited from riding on the street. It's riding on streets & roads that we do here but would not want to do in England, and would NEVER do in the US now, having been spoilt by German auto drivers' general tolerance of and respect for bikes on roads. Off-roads and dedicated bike ways are another matter. I save at least 4 minutes on the hour ride to Roppelt's when I do a few km stretches on roads instead of available trails...on the quickest route anyway.
