Yes, I am in Amsterdam. Don't think there is anyplace flatter than here. Looking at the openstreetmap site and choosing "cycle map" isn't really much better to my eyes. If you go to Heiligenstadt and look at the bike route from Hauptstrasse to Greifensteinstrasse, for example, it looks pretty flat. Believe me, it is not. According to the developer of PocketEarth, topographical maps is one of their most requested features, but, since it's a compact vector-based program there is a lot of work converting the existing maps. In Heiligenstadt, I stopped at a tank station and inquired about a bike map. The one they showed me (on paper), I don't recall having topographical data either. When I asked the two women there, they told me there are three bike paths to Aufsess and that all three went over the hills, not around them. I've since discovered that there seems to be a flatter route from Ebermannstadt to Heckenhof, by way of Waischenfeld - at least by looking at the Google topographic map. However, if we try this again, I'll probably just ask at the bike shop as the people there have probably done it themselves. |
