Was wondering when someone would bring up the geeky aspects of WiFi/WLAN vs. mobiles Netzwerk. I'll be at the big electronics shop in the next few days or so and will ask at a couple of the stands about what options they offer for Touristen. Can't believe Tchibo has this market all wrapped up for themselves alone. A question for Barry: what sort of device do you need this for -- laptop, smartphone, iPhone...? If the former, you might want to consider getting a smartphone. Seriously, it is literally having the internet in your pocket. I was skeptical until I got an HTC model just over a year ago and now can't believe I went "so long" without one. A Star Trek communicator, it is. And they can be had pretty cheap. Very easy to take on aeroplanes too. It's been trivial for me to get and use a SIM with my phone in the UK: 5 quid for a SIM that comes with 6 months' unlimited internet, though the minutes and SMS rates aren't cheap, but then I don't use them much. And if I need to *telephone*, I can swap out the UK SIM and use my Telekom one. |
