What's been so bad about it? I don't recall ever seeing a Schwarzbier at Hummel, but then again it's probably been 5 years since I've been there. This was quite decent. Much better than Köstritzer. Like a lagered porter, a description which continues to come to mind when I think of Schwarzbier many years after hearing someone explain how it should be judged at a homebrew competition. Well, that wasn't ALL he said, but still, it's stuck with me ever since. I'll be back there for more, just for a diversion from the nearby hoppy, pale Kellerbier. Speaking of which, last week's spontaneous Seidla-Halt at Rittmayer in Aisch was so good, I think I'll preface today's Roppelt's Keller visit with a return Seidla. Seriously, seriously good Hell. The way the Münchener(s) should brew it.
