OT: Driving

Mark, it seems to me that the US has let its public transport system wither. Almost everyone in the US has cars (nearly 90 percent from what I've found on the Internet) and people have come to think that any car is better than a non-existent public transport system. I can certainly understand that. However, most European countries, including Germany, have excellent public transport systems and, since everything is done on the internet today, have made wonderful websites to help with public transport. Here, for example, (http://www.haltestellen-suche.de/) is a website that shows every bus stop in every village, town and city in Germany. This site is apparently the work of one person. IAC, I assume you're familiar with the expression "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." The "Romans" here travel by public transport and, if some place is too difficult to reach that way, we just take a taxi for the last leg. In my last trip, at a brewery, I asked if they would call a taxi for me and they refused. Instead, they insisted on driving me. (They were going that way anyhow - it wasn't a trip just for me.)
