OT: Driving...and....

Goodness, what a bunch of mountains-from-molehills dustup this has become. My blemish-free driving record was sullied last September while stone-cold sober and alert, in perfectly good driving conditions, because I exited the Autobahn after 3+ hours of driving time and ignored the slow-down limit on the country highway leading into town. I was caught by camera/radar doing 75kph in a 60kph zone. I quickly paid the 20-euro fine and strongly doubt that there is any record of the transgression on file in Flensburg. Other than that, I know the rules of the road in a lot of countries, and have obeyed them. The missus and I also know to trade off driving duties to keep things going on an even keel, and we readily mix car use with other forms of transport ranging from shank's mare to bus, train, and taxi. I managed to organize travel on public transport for a party of nine Yanks (self included) last September for a day trip to Forchheim's Kellerwald that worked out splendidly; all in the party still remember that day out and are keen on repeating it in future. As Barry noted, our track record on the is good; we take care of ourselves and our passengers no matter what the form of transport. There are advantages and disadvantages to all forms of transport, but a one-size-fits-all solution simply doesn't exist. After more than four decades of driving, and no shortage of driving on European roads both great and small in the last three decades, I think I have things sorted reasonably well. Watching the thinly-veiled broad-brush accusations fly back and forth is rather, well, silly. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
