http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karpfen , that is, or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyprinus_carpio . This year's season began a bit early (late August rather than Sept) owing to the unusually warm spring, which enabled them to grow to maturity faster than usual this year. And they're supposed to be more meaty, less fatty as a result, an unusually good year for Karpfen. Topical to this message board: http://www.franconiabeerguide.com/CityDetail.asp?City=R%F6bersdorf Br. Weber offer an excellent Knobi-Karpfen, or garlic carp. Which I just love saying as someone who grew up along the Mississippi. Also had an outstanding Karpfen at Keesmann last year in the presence of others on this board, IIRC.
