Kriek at Beveridge Place Pub, Seattle (a bit OT, probably)

So in a similar vein, my local had an evening of rare draughts concentrating on beers made with fruit. The two most directly comparable were a pair of cherry beers (krieks): Mort Subite from Belgium and Big Al's from White Center, a suburban town (of sorts, as it's still unincorporated) that abuts Seattle on its southern border. The result was a no-brainer: Mort Subite Kriek (sadly, not the significantly superior Oude Kriek) was bland, light, and left a sticky-sweet finish. Big Al's was based on a sour western-Flemish-style red ale, and was spot on, and kicked Mort Subite's flabby arse all over the place. Two other draughts, Cascade Apricot Quad and Russian River Consecration, were similarly excellent. Not good when the Belgian product, supposedly the result of years of experience, is the most dumbed-down of the bunch. Back OT: Schanzenbräu does look well worth a visit, especially with the new hours making a mid-day excursion more possible. Combine it with Altstadthof (I detected notable improvement in their beers last September) and maybe an opening-time stop in at one of the remaining Landbierparadies pubs and ... well, anything's possible. Bonus: public-transport friendly in the best way, on a VGN day pass. Could be, could be.
