Bei schoenem wetter |

I know now what "bei schoenem wetter" means on those keller web pages, after my visit to Franconia 3 weeks ago. If the forecast isn't sunny, think twice about travelling out to the kellers. Spezial keller in Bamberg, the Geisfeld kellers, Kraus and Hirschaidaa in Hirschaid. All were firmly shut in what you might describe as "changeable" weather. Sunny with the odd shower. Even the mega-kellers in Munich were closed. To be fair, it was pretty humid and a heavy shower was due at some time. I lucked out and arrived at the Kreuzberg on a sunny afternoon. But a thunderstorm started up as I was sat on the top dressed in just a T-shirt and shorts...Luckily a German family unit gave me a lift back to Willersdorf. I also got diarrhoea on day 2 (not a cucumber, but a refried ruckensteak at a fest in Amberg), got *really* lost in the forest between Willersdorf and Forchheim, and came home with some nasty looking wasp stings. A couple of the massive kellers in Munich were open on the last afternoon. Hirschgarten and Augustiner. I bet they are quite impressive when they are full. |
