Since winter's over, we can forget Rotkohl and "his" sibling Blaukraut for the time being. I have personally observed UJ's Wirsing obsession in action. I believe this is the only explanation for his confusion, as I have also personally observed his ability to understand Deutsch. Especially culinary Deutsch. ( http://www.dict.cc/?s=sibling )
