Two points: Mike, it's the Atrium supermarket that's gone. It was a big shock to us as they did good veggie stuff. We walked happily along 'til we came to the big doors, which were lcoked and bolted. Peering through the glass, one big (and it was big for Germany)empty space. I think Don's second mention, the Fristo, is one that I was referring to because it's at the bhf end of Pödeldorfer (note the umlaut!) Str. Much less the 1 km - maybe 500 m. Our last fewo but one was 500 m past Abseits.
