US vs British English 'on'

It's not really a difference in kind, Barry. It's a subtler difference in the use of some prepositions (and prepositional phrases) in US vs British English. Otherwise, you're right as stated. Another one is the use of a starting date: "as from December 1" in British English, "as of December 1" in USA English, both with the same meaning. Also, a British English construct for the time of day (and oddly similar to, but not quite the same as, a similar construct in German): "half eleven." You'll never hear that in US English. And if the two major variants of English don't always agree on these little grammatical nit-picks, you can imagine the confusion of the poor learner, for whom English isn't a first language!
