Stuttgart (and Strasbourg)?

hi again regulars, i'm planning to be there this christmas but from what i've read the beer scene (in Stuttgart) is rather disappointing. has anyone been to both and what did you think? i'd rather spend more time in Strasbourg but it is touristy year round, especially in December with the markets which i'm not interested in at all. French beer, German influenced food, and gewuerztraminer every day! :D is there anything interesting beer-wise near Stuttgart? zum wohl!
