For what it's worth, the Schneider & Brooklyner Hopfen Weisse brewed in Kelheim (Bavaria) by Garret Oliver is definitely dry-hopped and will be available on tap in the ABT cafes in the Netherlands (e.g. Wildeman) as the Beer of the Month in April. There are two versions: Garrett (Brooklyn Brewery) went to Kelheim to brew the Bavarian version (dry-hopped with Hallertauer Saphir hops) while Hans Peter Drexler (Schneider) went to Brooklyn to brew the American version (Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse) with Schneider yeast, dry-hopped with Amarillo and Palisade hops. The idea between this (unique) venture, which started in 2007, was that each brewer would pay tribute to the other's hop culture by "guest-brewing" with the local hops. So dry-hopping in Bavaria doesn't seem to be an issue. ABT describes the Bavarian version as a beer with a beautiful hazy golden colour tinged with red, a flowery taste with citrus hop flavours, a powerful character with sweet fruit, 40 IBUs and 8.2% ABV. The American version has a fair amount of coverage on the web in English. |
