Eric,if all else fails,type into babelfish in english that you would like confirmation of your booking then get it to translate to german then send this to the hotel.I know it wont be a great translation, but it does work! I have done it myself in the past and it worked for me. I can sympathise with your predicament as i have been in the same situation,it is very annoying to try and make plans and not know wether they are booked or not. cheers!
