Trebgast can be reached by train from Bamberg, every two hours without having to change, and every other hour changing in Lichtenfels. In both cases be sure to take the part of the train with destination Bayreuth (split-up occurs in Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg, one stop before Trebgast). You can walk to Haberstumpf, it is a nice walk through the village, probably something like 1,5 km, and a bit uphill.
