I can't imagine that hotel people would suspect your group of harboring illicit guests! Could be that they're just naturally curious about the group of foreigners that are staying with them, no? Sorry, but I don't know what you mean by German nosiness. At least I've never thought of Germans as being particularly nosey. But I can relate to the difference between a Ferienwohnung type of stay and a hotel. No daily room service is a nice bonus, for one thing.
