I personally wouldn't let the threat of further strikes dissuade you. As Jimbo said, he travelled during the BIGGEST strike in German history with no trouble. It's been interesting to see how this works. The former eastern states are the most heaving unionized, and are the most severely affected by strikes, with up to 70% of scheduled trains being cancelled. In the west, only about 30-50% of trains were cancelled, with priority given to the most expensive trains--the ICE's. So, travel from FRA to Bamberg could be problem-free during a strike, though you might get delayed due to a cancellation, for example. Though I have no idea how a rail pass works. It's not so much that strikes are "sporadic", but that their effects are most strongly felt by commuters, who rely on the most local trains to get them to work within a half hour or so of when they normally would be. Seriously, people got around by train during the big strike last week, just not as efficiently as they're used to. It struck me a bit as, well, what's the big deal? And there may be good news in the next day or two anyway, as they're back at the negotiating table, supposedly. There shall be no strikes until at least 26th Nov., according to today's news. |
