I know it's a technicallity that Ambraeusianum draw attention to but from the point of view of seeking out great beers I think it's OK to use the term for the main brwery tap where the ownership is the same and the beer is brewed VERY close to the pub. I have long held the opimion that this is the best type of pub since of all the elements associated with a good pub (food, hospitality, etc.) brewing great beer is the hardest. So, in general, brew pubs (or wharever) are the best places to head for. To the point that I have convinced my wife that this is true even though she has little interest in the beer. Ironically I didn't like the beer at Ambraeusianum when I visited it last August. I think the main problem was that it was too cloudy and the almost "sludge" quantity of yeast in the beer dominated the flavour spoiling the balance of flavours to the point where I felt that I couldn't tell whether I would have liked the beer if it had been less cloudy. |
