Forchheim kellers

For one day's exploration, the Forchheimer Keller(s) would be my suggestion. During Annafest, 23 or more Keller are open, but during normal summer operation, ONLY 16 are, according to http://www.webfo.franken.de/html/fokeller.html (red dots are Annafest-only). Note that there is some duplication of breweries amongst the Keller...nevertheless, the Lage--the environment--is worth experiencing. I've walked from Buttenheim Bahnhof to the two Keller in about 25 minutes; likewise from Eggolsheim Bahnhof to the Schwarzer Adler brewery Keller, but the latter is not so highly recommended. Note that the two Bahnhöfe are not actually located in the towns that they're named after, rather, in the next towns to the west. That means, you get off at Buttenheim Bahnhof, which is located in the village of Altendorf, and walk a mile to Buttenheim. Likewise for the Eggolsheim Bahnhof in Neuses. From Eggolsheim, I'd take the 265 bus to Stiebarlimbach...if you go early enough to make sure you catch the last bus back, and only on weekdays. This way, you could lunch at the most excellent Roppelt's Keller in Stiebarlimbach, stroll up hill 1 km to find the 3 Keller at the top of the Kreuzberg, and then 2 km down to catch the return bus at Hallerndorf. If you fail to make it in time, a cab will cost about 20 € to Hirschaid Bahnhof. You can spend time at the Lieberth Keller in Hallerndorf while you wait for the cab. ;)
