GPS

I've had two models of Garmin GPS's -- eTrex Legend and iQue 3600 ( a Palm PDA) and I'd generally recommend them as a company. If you already have a smart phone or bluetooth PDA you can just possibly get an addon GPS module (friends have TomTom and have happy but there probably are others). Potenial uses are important as well -- if you want to use it for driving directions, it will probably cost more and the maps cost more. If its for hiking/biking/knowing where you are then the cheaper models (and cheaper maps) will do.
