A quintessential Franconian lager |

| I was drinking a pint of Mönchsambacher Lagerbier yesterday, reveling in its subtle wonders and starting to wax nostalgic about my first trip to Franconia, and the thought occured to me: this beer is what I have learned to think of as quintessentially Franconian. A well-rounded, tasty maltiness which never gets in the way, but which still has the ability to make you feel well-fed, balanced herbal hops which invite big gulps with their engaging aroma and linger just enough to dry out the back end, comfortable carbonation which effortlessly breaks onto your tongue, lifting most flavors while never being cumbersome, amazing drinkability, and that idiosyncratic, elegant farmhouse character. Löwenbräu Buttenheim's Ungespundetes also had given me these pleasurable shivers when I had it on tap in Forchheim. Which beers would you consider quintessentially Franconian?
