I saw kegs of this in the brewery on a recent visit to St. Geiorgen, in Buttenheim; they had the St. Georgen logo on and name (but nothing to connect them to Wgner-Bräu), with the second part of the name of the beer as two words: Höllen Trunk. The two people who have rated it in RateBeer use one word, so I presume they have seen it written in the place of origin, i.e. see http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/wagner-br%C3%A4u-pottensteiner-h%C3%B6hlentrunk/25044/ One of the raters talks of having it in bottle (well he mentions a label). The other had it in the "Bruckmeyer Brewery Inn". Googling shows this to be covered by a website, http://www.hotel-bruckmayer.de , which also covers a modern hotel. On this website, if you click on Brookmeyers Urbräu, you go to a page showing what is clearly an old brewery or museum of old brewing equipment and a bar. The name/address of the place is given on the site and by googling as Bruckmeyer's Gäste- und Wirtshaus "Zum Urbräu", Am Stadtgraben 1. The Bruckmeyer's Hotel Schwan (Ferienhotel Schwan) is in another location: Am Kurzentrum 6, but their website can confuse you into thinking that Zum Urbräu" is in the same place, but it seems not to be. The address of the Brauerei Wagner's tap, the Brauereigasthof Wagner-Bräu was Hauptstrasse 1, which is today called, according to Google, the Frankenlandstuben. The brewery itself was very close by, at Nürnberger Strasse 10. Does anyone know whether the Wagner Brewery and Tap were owned by a Bruckmeyer or the Bruckmeyer family? I have mislaid my old Stefan Mack Brewery Atlas (last issue was pre the closure of Wagner), which would answer the question, and my googling has not connected them. And What about what the second RateBeerer was told about the beer, i.e. they [Bruckmeyer] made it themselves? I presume this is incorrect, as I saw a keg of the stuff in St. Georgen, in Buttenheim this month? |
