Be aware that not all german wheat beers are really bottle conditioned. If the label says "mit Hefe", it usually only means "unfiltered". Look for "mit Flaschengärung" - that will have live yeast. AFAIK Schneider does use live yeast. So does Mahr from Bamberg and (not franconian) Michael Plank from Laaber (very good Weizenbier IMHO). And quite some other breweries, don't know about availability in the US. |
