>It looks like that Keller is only open Fridays & Saturdays after 17.00, and Sundays >after 14.00...not good for busing. Würste from their own butchery though--hey, >surprise! OK, then that keller is not on my list for this visit. It seems from my Stefan Mack Bierkeller book that they also brew their own beer at that keller? Or am I misunderstanding the German? "Vom Faß wird unfiltriertes Kellerbier aus der eigenen Brauerei ausgeschenkt - wahlweise Seidla oder Maß im Steinkrug." That book is from 1999, though. >Paying: Generally, you can pay in cash as you enter a bus. In Bamberg itself, on the >city bus lines (8227 ain't one of these though), you can buy a ticket from a >machine at a stop and then either validate it there at the stop or in the bus, I >forget which. >You're a foreigner; you will not be expected to understand how or how much to >pay. The driver may or may not display what you might perceive as irritation at >your not knowing beforehand what exactly to do--that's his problem. Board the >bus, and simply say "Herrrrnsdorf, bitte", rolling your "r". The driver should tell >you what to pay (and give change), and will probably give you a ticket. Better yet, >say "Brrrauerei Barrrneekehl in Herrrrnsdorf, bitte." I once got on a city bus in Bamberg at the ZOB, and didn't have a ticket. The driver acted irritated and then just waved me on without paying. :-) What is this about rolling the r's? Is that a good or bad thing to do? Actually, I find it really difficult NOT to roll my r's. The Hochdeutsch soft R is very challenging for me. Thanks!
