Bamberg this weekend (10-12 Sept)

Based on quite recent experience, I'll go out on a limb and recommend giving Ambräusianum a miss. The beer served there was awful. Icky underattenuated and underaged blond unfiltered beer, and horrible infected dark beer with nasty flavors. The two of us who were stupid enough to drink these things also suffered from unwelcome aftereffects akin to a very mild case of Montezuma's Revenge. Never again. There are far too many places serving good beer to ever consider returning. Two big thumbs down to Ambräusianum's beers. Nice enough place, but when the best beer served is the 'guest' beer from two doors down, that's all I need to know. Good news is that Fred's GPS has a couple of new waypoints, and that staying at the Winkler Brauereigasthof in Melkendorf (just a few kms east of Bamberg, very easily reached with a car) was a great experience, not least for the deliciously malty dark house beer, and the number of other excellent places close by.
