Hohenlohe-Franconia used to be the most remote and poor area all over Franconia and it is still. For the last five years I always wanted to visit the Adlerbrauerei Schmetzer at Michelbach a. d. Lücke. Now I did and I'm really glad. Time stopped here in the 1950s or so. No change at all. We've been to a very small Wirtschaft 2 kms from Michelbach to Rot am See and tested all three beers. Export: 5.4 % alc. and just perfect. Very similar to Spielbacher Bier, as the brewers are relatives. Just a small amount of hop extract added, so it's malty and not sweet. Export Dunkel: The same style, 5.2 % alc. and slightly maltier. Pils: Same style again and very drinkable. Only 4.8 % alc. GO AND TRY AS LONG AS IT'S AVAILABLE! Breweries of that typical oldfashioned style are nearly gone. I hope this one is going to survive the next ten years. The beer's from another century...
