OT: learning German

I just try to improve a little bit each year so that I'm a little better at it each time I revisit.  I use Rosetta Stone and find it very helpful and I do a lot of reading online and sometimes books.  Sometimes it's just a matter of everytime I read a Facebook wall post from Juergen or Gerhard I read and try to understand it and repeat it as is in German then click the Translate button to see how well I did (even though the translate function is not always accurate).  I read a lot of websites (beer related for the most part of course).

Each time I visit I find I'm just a little bit more comfortable to the point that I can now at least have very simple and basic exchanges with people when wandering around parts of Franconia and don't feel at all intimated to explore the region even on my own if I feel like it.

I find though that I'm comfortable with it in Franconia as I guess that's the accent/dialect that I'm used to hearing.  When I went to Eschawo last May I felt totally lost with their accent and dialect and started stumbling over my words awkwardly and finally just gave up.

Pretty soon I'll start working on Rosetta Stone again to get ready for next year's travels.
