okay, an introduction!

That's quite an introduction! Then there's me, consuming bandwidth here for years now, with having said very little about myself. I used to be an industrial engineer -cum- factory automation software developer. Then we moved here and I never got back into that field, having lost interest/motivation through my experience in a year-long German intensive course. So now I "teach" English to non-native speakers part-time and brew beer (and clean house) the rest of the time. Thought that was you from that other webbie. Didn't know you were so involved with the place, just thought you were another member. Me, I use it as a reference for information about beers, I'm not personally interested in rating them. And the forums can be great entertainment, owing to the personalities involved. I grew up in Minnesconsin, with adjunct-laden Industriebier like Schlitz, Pabst and Heilemann. By the early 90's I'd discovered Guinness, Summit, and Sam Adams, and then moved to Oregon, where I went through stages of discovery of microbrewed, then Belgian, and then finally proper German beer. Then we moved here and I discovered proper low-gravity real ale on trips to England. And so now that's what I brew at home: überhopped 3.5% abv ale. I did some homebrewing and homebrew judging back in my Oregon life, with the likes of Fred Eckhardt and the late Michael Jackson. Well, I never *judged* with the latter, but did drink with him at a homebrew competition and some other event in Portland.
