Biking v. Walking

Biking, as you may or may not know, is the major form of transport here in NL. We have (officially) more bikes than people. Biking for speed or sport is not very popular here. IAC, my estimate was based on an 11-km trip that took us a bit over an hour. I'm sure your speed estimate is more accurate than mine. I think a major point of all this, though, is that biking and walking are very similar (other than speed, of course) in terms of muscle/respiratory use and access to the sensory experiences (smells, sounds, etc.) that are usually lost in mechanical means of transport. All things considered, I'd probably prefer biking to walking in Franconia unless the distances were so trivial it didn't matter.
