Labour Day in Germany - May 1st

Actually, isn't this one of the things where Yanks have held on to older, established conventions while the rest of the world have raced after the latest trend or fad -- like the imperial measurements vs. metric system? I mean, wasn't the American method of mm/dd/yyyy the British standard in the past? And Jason, maybe I should've clarified: it's difficult for non-native-English speakers to grasp. English people have encountered the American system far more often than Germans, for example.
