Bamberger Bombs

Bamberg was lucky, it was left alone until the last few months of the war when daylight raids by the USAAF (the RAF was not guilty on these occasions) were aimed at railway and communications targets. As Mark has described three breweries were hit and civilian loss of life was high - over 200. Contemporary photographs of the damage around Lange Strasse and the Untere Bruecke are quite tragic. Bombs were also dropped in the surrounding countryside by RAF aircraft on their way to/from targets such as Nuernberg and Schweinfurt.
